HEAVY YARDING OF COWS WESTFIELD STOCK SALE PRICES SHOW LITTLE CHANGE WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.rn. One of the heaviest yarding* of cows, approximately 500 head, came forward to the Westfield fat stock sale today. Values for beef showed little quotable chanjge from late rates, although inferior finished sorts were hard to quit toward the close. Best young ox made up to 37s a hundred; ordinary choice prime ox, from 33s to 36s a hundred. Best young cows and heifers, to 335; ordinary prime cow beef made from 24s 6d to 28s 6d a hundred. An entry of approximately 350 head of steers was drawn from over a wide area. South Auckland graziers being the principal vendors; the average quality was good and, although bigframed cattle were hard to locate, there was a good percentage of wellfinished medium weight cattle. Bidding on the ox beef was steady, with the bigger butchers doing the most of the work toward the close; the majority of the smaller butchers tilled their beef orders from the cow and heifer section. Exporters were again unable to buy to any appreciable extent owing to prices holding above the export parity. Top price was secured for a pen of lieavy prime bullocks on account George Vosper, Cambridge, which made £ls 12s fid for a pen bought by T. Paster, Fonsonby. One truck of exceptionally choice prime steers on account M. Harding, Mount Wellington, made up to £ls 10s. Fifteen choice lieavy prime steers on account G. Hastie, Papatoetoe, made £l4 5s to £ls. Sixteen prime handy weight steers on account Williams and Campbell, Putaruru, made from £l2 2s 6d to £l3. Two trucks of choke heavy prime steers on account B. Reed. Waerenga, made from £l4 2s fid to £ls. Sixteen medium to heavy prime steers on account J. McNicol, Te Aroha, made from £l3 to £ls 2s Gd. Medium to heavy prime steers on account C. G. Robertson. Waiuku, made from £l2 10s to £l4 17s fid. Good quality young cows sold freely at up to £l2 10s; medium prime cows and heifers made to £8 15s; light and small. £ 5 10s to £7; unfinished and old, from £3. A heavy yarding of calves was made up of an appreciable percentage of bigframed station sorts. The market .showed a decline on late, sales for all hut well nourished medium weight valves. Choice prime heavy vealers sold at up to £4 4s; only exceptionally prime runners made over £5; a ought unfinished stores made from 10s.
