BOYS’ SOCCER TOUR
TEAM MAY GO TO AUSTRALIA ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. A game between two trial teams was witnessed yesterday by Mr. R. Harrison, of Belmont School, Auckland, who is to select and manage the Association football team of New Zealand primary school boys in event of the tour of Australia being arranged. Mr. Harrison met the New Zealand Football Association Council last evening and discussed the projected tour. He said that provided the. South Island associations would assemble their bovs at Christchurch for a trial game he proposed to leave for Christchurch on Friday evening to see them play. It was reported that the South Island association had been communicated with on the subject, but no reply had been received. It was reported that Dunedin and Westland had both expressed a desire to have boys in the team. The cahirman, Mr. F. Campbell, said if the South Island did not put up anv representatives Mr. Harrison would have to select a team of North Island boys. Mr. Harrison replied that he could get a strong team from the North Island, although he would prefer it to be representative of both islands. He would select 18 players and an assistant manager would be required. The chairman, Mr. F. Campbell, said would be £2O a boy, which would have to be guaranteed by associations or parents and paid in before the tour. The manager and assistant manager would each pay in £lO toward their own expenses and the team would be assembled in Wellington a week before > leaving, in order to undergo some training. | Mr. Harrison said the Auckland j associations would be prepared to find ! nine or ten boys if required. | Mr. Harrison was asked to complete the selection of the team by June 10. It was decided to send the following cablegram to the Australian Football Association:—“New Zealand desires a schoolboy tour; all arrangements completed subject to your guarantee of good matches, proper supervision and successful tour. Dates early in August jas previously arranged. Cable reply.” i On the reply of the Australian Assoj ciation hangs the fate of the tour.
