AUSTRALIANS PLAY IN ENGLISH TOURNEY MISS HAY WINS Reed. 1.20 p.m. LONDON, Monday. In the ladies’ golf championship at Fonnby, Miss McLeod, Royal Melbourne, and Misess L. and G- Barelaj, Royal Kingston, Tasmania. were scratched. In the second round Miss G. Hay, Barown Heads, defeated Miss Jackson, 2 up and 1. Mrs. Barbour beat Mrs. Rymill, the Australian, 3 up and 2. Survivors in the second round include Molly Gourlay, Joy Winn and also the American, Glenna Collett. There were five Australian entrants in the ladies’, golf championship, but only two played in today’s preliminary rounds at Formby. Miss Hay's victory over Miss Jackson is a notable one, seeing that her opponent is one of the most famous golfers in Ireland and lias won the Irish championship several times. Miss Hay had an uphill fight. Miss Jackson led all the way to the 14th hole, when she became erratic and ran through the green. She began putting feebly, while Miss Hay was consistently accurate. Mrs. Rymill, from South Australia, was beaten by a local competitor, Mrs. Barbour. In the first half Mrs. Rymill held the upper hand and she was two up at the turn, but on the homeward run she was outdriven and outplayed. The twin sisters, Barclay, from Kingston Beach, Tasmania, did not appear and were scratched.
