The Governor-General. Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe received members of the King’s Empire Veterans Government House this morning. Mr. R. Semple, M.P.. travelled by the Limited express from Wellington to Frankton this morning. Mr. W. E. Russell, British Agent and Consul at Tonga, has retired and intends to live in Auckland. Mr. Albert Spencer, president of the Auckland Provincial Employers’ Association, left for Wellington last evening. Mr. G. McNamara, secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department, arrived by the Limited express this morning. Mr. A. J. Entrican, deputy-Mayor of Auckland, who left for Wellington last evening, expects to return within two or three days. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, will arrive from Dargavillo tomorrow and v/.1l leave in the evening for Wellington. The Rev'. J. M. Srneeth, Congregational minister at Raglan, has accepted an appointment with the Congregational Church at Dunedin. Mr. George W. King, of Patea, has been appointed engineer-overseer to the Uawa County Council. There were 65 applicants.—P.A. Lieutenant-Colonel C. Is. Hercus, New 2!ealand Medical Corps, of Duru**din, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long-service Medal. Dr. Phillips-Turner, who has been on the staff of King George V. Hospital for some months, lias resigned for the purpose of continuing his studies in England. Dr. Brian G. Thompson, who some time ago was assisting Dr. Duncan tit the sanatorium, has returned to Rotorua and will till the vacancy at King George V. Hospital. Sir George Fovvlds, president of the Auckland University College Council, and Mr. T. LT. Wells, a member, left for Wellington last evening to attend a meeting of the University Senate. Sir George w ill return to Auckland in a week's time, while Mr. Wells will visit the Massey Agricultural College on tho return journey and will be absent for a fortnight.
