WILL REPORT BRITISH RUGBY FOOTBALL TOUR
MR. J. G. McLEAN TO REPRESENT THE SUN AND REUTER’S
One of the most important newspaper assignments of the year has been given to Mr. J. G. McLean, of the
editorial staff of The Sun, who will cover the tour of the British Rugby football team in New Zealand for The Sun Newspapers in Auckland and Christchurch, and for Reuter’s News Agency. Reuter’s is a world-wide organisation, used by many of the leading English and Continental papers, and in newspaper circles it is recognised as a great compliment to Mr. McLean that he should have been selected as Reuter’s special representative. Mr. McLean was born in Wanganui. His first newspaper appointment was with the Manawatu “Daily Times,” and subsequently he was attached to the Eitham “Argus,” the Napier “Daily Telegraph” and the Wanganui “Chronicle.” He joined the reporting staff of The Sun in Auckland in 1927, was Parliamentary correspondent for the paper in 1928, and on his return from the Press Gallery was promoted to the editorial staff. Mr. McLean has had a successful football career. He represented Wanganui in 1922 and Taranaki in 1923. He is a keen tennis player, and last year, partnered by T. Kelly, carried off the Dominion doubles Badminton championship.
