N.Z. FLEET CHANGING GREATER ECONOMY From Our Own Correspondent WELLINGTON, Monday.' Several coastal vessels owned by Richardson and Company, of Napier, are shortly to be converted from steamers to motor-ships. It is estimated that the change will result in a reduction in running costs. The vessels concerned are the Awahou, of 410 tons, built at Paisley. Scotland, in 1912; the Pukeko. of 736 tons, built at the Goole Shipbuilding Company’s yards, in 1928; the Kapiti, of 242 tons, built at Paisley in 1902; the Kapuni. of ISS tons, built at Auckland in 1919; and the Hawera, of 174 tons, built at Auckland in 1912. The Awahou and the Pukeko are usually engaged on the East Coast and the other three trade between Wellington. Wanganui and Patea, with the exception of the Kapiti. The changes will be made by Lowe and Company, of Auckland, toward the end of this month.

The Kapiti will be converted at Wellington.
