TRIO OF STOWAWAYS

FINED TOTAL OF £2l Two Tasmanians and an Irishman, who came over on the Makura’s last trip from Sydney as uninvited guests, were fined £7 each at the Police Court this morning for stowing away. John Griffiths Chamberlain, a steward, aged 26, and Joseph William Ivo Davis, a seaman, aged 24, both Tasmanians, and William Keogh, an Irish seaman, aged 28, all pleaded guilty to the charge. Sub-Inspector Shanahan said the men had been on remand while inquiries were made to see whether they were undesirables. Nothing, however, was known against them. Default of the fines was fixed at seven days’ imprisonment in each case.
