STRAND
“PARIS” Distinguished by beautiful technicolour scenes and unique in scenic effects is “Paris,” the Strand’s current attraction, a First National' and Vitaphone picture, starring Irene Bordoni, famous comedienne of international fame, and Jack Buchanan, the idol of the English musical comedy stage. In this production there are many pretty girls, artistic settings, lilting songs —and Irene Bordoni, whose manner is always spontaneously vivacious but who, in the few emotional moments of the story, demonstrates her ability as a dramatic actress, equalling her talent as a tuneful comedienne. Jack Buchanan, although a newcomer in American films, is no stranger to the musical comedy type of role he plays in “Paris.” In 1924 Buchanan made his first trip to America, playing at the Times Square Theatre, in New York, in Chariot’s first American venture. The following year he returned to London to play in another Chariot revue. Beatrice Lille and Gertrude Lawrence were co-stars in this production with Buchanan. Jack is now a producer as well as a star, producing his own shows in London. He played last year in “That’s a .Good Girl,” having a London season of 16 months to his credit before leaving for Hollywood to play opposite Irene Bordoni, the French star, in the First National and Vitaphone picture, “Paris.” “Paris” is Buchanan’s first talking picture. He has played in the silent films for the Gaumont and British International Companies in London. An entertaining programme of talkie featurettes* is also being presented. Victor McLaglen’s next starring vehicle will be “Dust and Sun,” adapted from the novel by Clements Ripley. The story had a South American background.
