PLAYED WITH FATE
RACING CAR WHEEL HANGS BY THREAD AT 100 M.P.H. Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Sundaj\ A DISASTER was narrowly averted at Brooklands today, the second day of the double 12-hours race. Earl Howe, with Captain Malcolm Campbell, was travelling at 100 miles an hour when it was discovered that the near-side rear wheel was hanging by a few threads. The race ended in heavy rain, the Bentleys filling first and second places, and a Riley third. The leading Bentley averaged 86.68 miles an hour.
