IGNORED WARNINGS
THREE MONTHS’ GAOL FOR WOMAN HER EIGHTH CONVICTION "She has had her chance and warnings do not seem to impress her," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning’, sentencing Mabel Stout, a domestic, aged 36, to three months’ imprisonment on a charge of being idle and disorderly, in that she consorted with undesirables. Stout, who had asked for a remand when she first appeared, pleaded not guilty and evidence was given by Constable Christiansen. The constable said the woman had been out of gaol only six or seven weeks. She had been hanging about hotels drinking and consorting with undesirables. She had been repeatedly warned. Corroborative evidence was given by Constable Moore. Accused: I have a legal husband—and in work, too. Constable Moore: Her husband says he is finished with her. Accused: I’d like to hear him say that in court. He’d be only too glad to have me back. The magistrate, commenting that gaol was the only place for Stout, imposed the term cf imprisonment.
