ST. JAMES
“ON WITH THE SHOW” A pageantry of colour marks the Warner Brothers’ picture ‘‘On With the Show,” which is now in its second week at the St. James Theatre. Attractive ballets amid spectacular stage settings provide scenes unparalleled and the whole production gives a complete rendering of a musical comedy. The story deals with the fortunes of a musical comedy company, which is in a perilous financial condition. On the night of the opening performance the manager only with difficulty succeeds in urging the players to go on the stage. During the course of the third act the box office is robbed and matters came to a climax when the leading lady refuses to return on the stage unless her overdue salary is paid The solution of the difficulties of the company comes through the action of the ticket collector, who succeeds in the leading lady's role and brings the play to a successful conclusion. Betty Compson has the leading part in the production and gives a convincing portrayal, while Arthur Lake plays opposite. Sally O’Neill, Louise Fazenda, and Joe E. Brown are members of the- supporting cast.
