MUNICIPAL CHOIR CONCERT Old folk-songs anti songs t>y Schumann, Mendelssohn and Verdi were jdven at a concert held in the Town hall on Saturday evening by the Municipal Choir. The folk-songs included three wellKnown "Maying” songs, "Mow is the Month of Moving,” "Conte Let Us All a-Maying Go,” and “All Hail! Thou Merry Month ot May.” These were excellently sung, with all the unsophis'ioatlon that is so characteristic of the ™ r| y pastoral. Mendelssohn's hymn, brant Us Thy Peace,” and Schumann’s "Summer Song" followed. Mr. Maughan Barnett acted as conductor to the choir, and played two °rgan solos. "The Jolly Farmer” is a hauther fraught with an almost noisy cheerfulness, and Mr. Barnett showed >l3 versatility by plaving it in contrast !° th « beautiful "St. Francis Preaching ‘o the Birds.” -- The Laird o’ Cockpen” and "O Can Sew Cushions?" caught the atmosPaei e of the Scotland of the balladist.
