AIRDROME IN WAIRARAPA

NEW FLYING FIELD OPENED Press Association MASTERTON, Saturday. The Martinborough airdrome, the first to be licensed in the Wairarapa, was officially opened today by the Mayor, Mr. W. B. Martin, in the presence of the Director of Air Services, "Wing-Commander Grant Dalton, and a large attendance of Aero Club members and the public. An interesting event of the day was the passing of flying tests by the first amateur pilot to qualify in the rarapa, Mr. A. B. Jury. Wing-Commander Grant Dalton said that although the Wairarapa Club was promised recognition it would not be approved until it had employed a separate ground engineer and had satisfied other requirements. The Martinborough ground has a hangar capable of holding two airplanes. It is hoped shortly to open grounds in other parts of the district. A hangar on a temporary ground near Masterton is to be built shortly.
