E 1 Direct Scores Again

final day at forbury park Native Prince in Fine Form BELINDA WINDS THE WATCH 4 - . Special to THE SUN DUXEDJX, Today. FAVOURED again -With ideal weather the Forbury Park rrotting ( lub s winter carnival was successfully concluded today. There was a large attendance, and the track was in capital order, assisting many performers to clip large portions off their handicaps.

Speculation was brick, the sum of £33.763 being’ handled for the day, r>gainst £32,844 on the final day last jj a y. The figures for the meeting reached £56.847, showing an increase over the £54,734 recorded in 1929. Ellegro, which finished third in the Tioyal Handicap, was subsequently dist ualified for the race, the position beins awarded to Ulm. Driver Rushton v.as fined £5 for failing to get his charge back to the proper gait after breaking. In the Southland Handicap John Noble, which finished third, was disqualified for Interference with Lj'dia. urd Driver Calder was fined £lO. At a Good Price El Direct, who won. the saddle event decisively on Thursday, was again allowed to start at a false price. Well ridden by M. Holmes, the Northernowned gelding won in great style in _ 12 1-5. Native Prince made amends lor his first-day defeat by winning the Victory Handicap, in approved fashion to register 4.26. Belinda, a first-day winner, Which clipped 12 seconds off her mile and ahalf handicap, won the slow two-mile event in easy style. This time Belinda

Improved the handicap by 15 seconds. Vecto, who was in disgrace as a result of bad barrier manners on Thursday, made full atone today, winning the Railway Handicap. and finishing second to Nelson do Oro in the Southland Handicap. Vendome, after failing on the opening day, scored a comfortable victory in the Farewell Handicap Standby Improves Standby, unlucky in the Bayfield Handicap the first day, was elected a strong favourite for the Tahuna Handicap. A good beginning landed him third behind Bintara and Saka Bona rassing the stand the first time, and when the leaders tired at the end of a mile, his task was made very easy. Ambition again trotted a, fine race, but was all through to scramble home narrowly from Fifa. The Guy Parrish mare was the unlucky horse of the race, a break at the start costing her a lot of ground, and she took a lot out of herself in the first mile, by coming from last to sixth. Kilbirnie Dan trotted splendidly for a mile and a-quarter, ar.d is tho makings of a useful three-ycar-old, A Speedy Mare Belinda won the Itoyal Handicap with apparent ease, and in knocking over 15sec off her handicap, made a hopeless task for tho others. She is one of the few progeny of Omako racing, and was never off the bit. to stay on in fine style. Lady Zephyr went two miles surprisingly well, bavins to register 4.3 G 1-5 in defeat. Ellegro finished third at a gallop, and at a meeting of tho stewards he was disqualified for the race, and his driver, B. Rushton, fined £5 for not bringing his horse back to the correct gait. Festival was collided with by Southern Don at the start, and driver McDermott tipped out of the sulky. Splendid Performances The public are a fickle lot. Peter Haunt failed after having every chance on the first day in the saddle heat, but he was made a hot favourite for the mile again, while El Direct was

comparatively neglected. Form followers harvested, as El Direct made up his handicap in seven furlongs, *jna fairly smothered the opposition vv, Spee(l in the run home. John had a narrow call over Liberal, .his part at the right end. Marln.Ca was fourth, and the favourite out sight. On Best Behaviour

r, I hat Mr * F - w - Johnston was justirf r **^ u ting the recommendation I’ t * le N>w Zealand Trotting Associa‘°n to withdraw Vecto from tiie Rail- ' Vy Handicap on account of its unruly wh aVi ° Ur on the ,irst day was proved the Logan Pointer horse went Na >’ from the barrier like a lamb. *° win easily. Kate Logan did all the Pacemaking to the straight, but Vecto r'!? not unduly pressed to beat Kinney mon by a length. Kate Logan faded . dismally toward the end, allowng N’elbar and Danny Boy to head er off. Morrison was jammed on to

tho rails soon after the start, but the interference did not make all the difference, and evidently his hard race on the first day had its effect. The Pace was On The last half-mile of the Victory Handicap was run at the terrific rate of 1.1, and Native Prince proved his mettle by outstaying Carmel and Omaha, and then surviving a spirited lato challenge from Sunsliower. From a good start Omaha led through the straight from Jean McElwyn, Bonny Logan, Siinshower, Native Prince, Carmel. and Cardinal Logan. There was no change in the order at the lialfmile, run in 1.10, but at the mile, 2.18 2-5, Native Prince gnd Carmel ran up to the leaders, and at the mile and a-half, which took 3.27, they had drawn up to Omaha. Then the pace was clapped on, and Native Prince survived it like a champion, to beat Sunshower by a length, with Carmel tiring, a similar distance away. Bonny’ Logan, Omaha, and Cardinal Logan followed. Tonic's Hard Effort Once Quickfire hit the front at a level gait in the Peninsula Handicap, he set such a solid pace that, despite a break three furlongs from home, he had ample time to recover and go on to comfortable victory from Tonic and Boneta. The back-marker went his best race since coming to this country, registering 4.32 2-5 from 4.37, and in addition stayed on well. Peter Lynn went badly, while Boneta and Dolores did not go solidly. Swiftbine is a hopeless proposition. Nelson do Oro proved a class on his own in tho deciding issue of the Southland Handicap. Making up his handicap in the first half-mile, he had the oposition at his mercy, and left Vecto and John Noble to it when required. Lydia had a good passage, but was interfered with two furlongs from home, which cost her much ground. Nelson McElwyn did best of tlio others. Favourite at Last Vendome was made a warm favourite for the Farewell Handicap, and, always well placed, she had little trouble in disposing of Lingfield and Neerson in the back the last time, and went on to score a most convincing victory. Omaha, under pressure, got up in time to beat Lingfield by a head on the post. Jolly Pet and Morning
