TWO MEN GAOLED

ROBBERY WITH VIOLENCE IN WELLINGTON PREVIOUS RECORDS Press Association WELLINGTON. Today. Prisoners sentenced by Mr. Justice Blair were Walter Fraser and Sherries Uarneiss, alias William Fraser and James Lurman. They were found guilty last week of assault, with intent to rob, and each was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment. Counsel for the defence said that in view of their records, he found it hard to say anything to influence the court in their favour. Mr. Justice Blair said there was a time when robbery with violence was always punished with hanging. The prisoners had got hold of a half drunken man and throttled him and attempted to rob him. Harneiss had been sentenced to eighteen months for a similar offence in Christchurch in 1923.
