NEW PLYMOUTH SHOPPERS INCONVENIENCED TRANSFORMER BLOWS OUT From Our Own Correspondent NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. A serious shortage of power caused by the blowing out of a transformer affected New Plymouth between 5.i0 p.m. and 9 o’clock last evening. When the transformer blew out it damaged the switchboard at the sub-station m> that it was impossible to supply full power. For the first hour after the interruption the lights were on and off at short intervals, but later, by switching off street lights and the community light system and stopping the trams,’a dim but constant light was provided for shoppers. Following the recent power shortage throughout the borough, last evenings breakdown caused great annoyance among shopkeepers and businessmen whose trade suffered.
