STOLE STOCKINGS
HAWKER’S THEFT FROM RESIDENCE MAN TO LOSE LICENCE The theft of a pair of women’s stockings at a residence visited oil a hawking round was admitted by Sydney Clifford Faber, a painter, aged 28. in the Police Court this morning. The police evidence said Faber had accompanied his father on the round, r ; F- K. Hunt, S.M., instructed the police to take steps to have the hawking licence of the father cancelled. The stockings were valued at 14s lid, the property of Irene Maud Ashton, and Sub-Inspector Shanahan explained that the complainant had hung out some washing at her Mount Albert residence. She was in a front room when someone knocked at the door. She did not answer when she saw it was a hawker, but she later missed the stockings. The stockings were found on accused bv a constable, and, said Mr. Shanahan, one feature of the case was that a pair of gloves and another pair of stockings, which were damp, were found in a sack in the possession of the men. “Can I have time to pay?” asked Faber when Mr. Hunt fined him £5 or 14 days’ imprisonment. Mr. Hunt: No, you'll be sent up and I want the police to see that your father’s licence is cancelled.
