MOTORIST CHARGED WITH NEGLIGENCE WOMEN HURT AT KIMIHIA , Frutti Our Own Correspondent SUBTLY, Friday. The case in which Reginald Cecil White Taylor, an insurance inspector, was charged with negligent and reckless driving and with doing bodily injury to Mrs. Margaret Francis Armstrong and her daughter Greta, was concluded in the Police Court this afternoon. The charges arose out of an accident near the Kimihia Cemetery on January 24. Greta Armstrong also gave evidence. She also used a walking-stick and was assisted into court and gave her evidence seated. She corroborated her mother’s and sister’s evidence. Thomas Brocklebank, a taxi-driver, and Frank Butler, a miner, who assisted the injured and took defendant to the police station, gave details of measurements taken, the latter affirming that he could smell liquor on accused but that he was sober. The skid-marks were 60ft long with the brake on, and 53ft on the grass without the brake being on. Thomas Cox and Thomas Warden, who travelled over the OhinewaiKimihia. area that night, said It was a very dark night, but clear and visibility was good. Constable Ingram, who measured the various areas at the scene of the accident. said that the car travelled HSft on the wrong side on the grass, and then 76ft along the bitumen, before coming to rest. He had no doubt the car travelled 154 ft after striking the pedestrians. The driver’s condition was normal. Witness detected a slight smell of liquor on Taylor but he was seber. Taylor pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence and was committed to the I Supreme Court for trial. Bail, aci cused in his own bond of £l5O, an* one surety of £l5O. was allowed.
