MR. E. P. I. HIRST A weli-known farmer of Op&hefc* Mr. Ernest P. I. Hirst, died this wee at the age of 34 years. Mr. Hirst, who was a member of th* 3rd Auckland Mounted Rifles, served with distinction during the Great War Ho received a wound in the face, fnwr tlio effects of which he was severed troubled during his remaining year. Ho is survived by his wife and on* daughter. MR. T. B. BAILEY At Patumahoe on Thursday the desi; occurred of Mr. Thomas Bray He was born at Torquay, Devonshire” in 1847 and arrived at Auckland by the shiD Water Nvmoh in 1868. Mr BaiWv resided at Thames, Otahuhu and Auckland, and for the past 23 years n Patumahoe. He conducted the Patumahoe Hotel for 13 3-ears. He was for many years a member of the vestn of St. Bride’s Anglican Church. Mauku, and at the time of his deatr was vicar’s warden. He leaves four daughters, Mrs. G. Torkar, Patumahoe. Mrs. Marnfich, Waiuku, Mrs. Moore, To Aria, and Mrs. Growden, Pukekoht ! There are also a number of grandchildren. MISS ALISON HENDERSON Miss Alison Henderson, a forme superintendent of the Epsom nursing division of the fc?t. John Ambulance Association, died at her home at Remaera Road yesterday. Miss Henderson, who did valuable ; work during the war, was joint superintendent with Miss Kvelyn Firth 0! the Epsom Convalescent Home, which was used for invalid soldiers. Sht took keen interest in children, anc when in Christchurch was instrument*; in establishing a children's home at Xew Brighton Miss Henderson has been in a state of bad health for the last five years She is survived by her mother, two brothers and a /sister. MRS. C. HOSKING A respected resident of Waiuku, Mr*. Sophia Hosking, died at her residence on Wednesday morning, in her BJth year. Born in Cornwall, England, in 1841, she came to Xew Zealand with her parents, the late Mr. and Mr*. Charles Barriball, in the ship Westminster. After residing in Auckland for a time she went to Waiuku, wher* she was married to Mr. Caleb Hosking, who predeceased her some 12 years ago. She shared in all the privation s and hardships associated with the lif* of the early settlers. She was * staunch supporter of the Methodir Church and an ardent advocate of thf various temperance organisation*. Horticulture was her favourite pastime and right up to her death took a keen interest in all public affairs. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Hamlin, of Mount Roskill, and two brothers. Messrs. Jos. Barriball and A. | M. Barriball, of Waiuku, and the fol--1 lowing sons and daughters, Me**r*. I C. J. and W. C. S. Hosking (Waiuku • | and Mesdames H. P. Garland < Aka), 11. Craig (Pukekohe), L. Gan* ; <To Awamutu). A. Healey and W. Ewen and Miss E. Hosking, Waj* uku. In addition, there are 27 grand- : children and three great-gran dchildrer The funeral, which took place at tc* , Waiuku Cemetery yesterday after . noon, was largely attended. The services both at the residence and at_tr.e graveside were conducted by the W. S. Xeal. assisted by the Rev. Griffith, of Auckland, a former minister and personal friend of the family-
