LOSS TO SPORT
MR. G. COX’S DEPARTURE FOR CHRISTCHURCH NOTABLE SOCCER CAREER From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Thursday. Hamilton Soccer circles have suffered a loss by the departure for Christchurch of Mr. George Cox. He was known throughout New Zealand and his keen and capable administration locally as secretary and treasurer of the South Auckland Football Association will be widely missed. He has been associated with the code in Hamilton for nine years, six of which he took an active part in administrative work. That his abtlitj" as a referee is fully recognised is evident from the fact that he was selected as one of the referees to control the final test between Canada and New Zealand in 1928. Mr. Cox has played Soccer in England, South Africa, West Australia and New Zealand. With this outstanding record leading critics of the game consider him to be the most international representative in the Dominion. Besides his interest in Soccer,
“George” had a corner in his heart for boxing and cricket. He has been assistant secretary of the Frankton Boxing Association for the last two years and was also vice-president of the Old Boys’ Cricket Club.
