Under Vice-Regal Eyes

LEAGUE AT CARLAW PARK

Ponsonby to Play City TIIE Governor-General of New Zealand, Lord Bledisloe, will be tlie guest of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Football League at Carlaw Park tomorrow afternoon, when what promises to be the finest game of the season to date. City v. Ponsonby. will hold pride of place on No. 1 area.

So far this season both teams an undefeated, Ponsonby having had two wins, over Richmond and Ellerslie, and City having drawn with Ellerslie and defeated Newton. Both teams are evenly matched on paper, although as a combined working machine the Ponsonby backline showed at the Domain last Saturday that it will take soni€ stopping Skelton has shown up as a particularly dangerous back, and Delgrosso at fullback is far more useful than behind the scrum. The Ponsonby forward division has been gingered up by the inclusion of some promising new blood this season, and acquitted itself well against the Ellerslie men last week. Provided it can get up the necessary combination, the City rear division which includes Ben Davidson and M. Wetherill should prove the equal of the blue-and-black side. Ii is possible that the forward division, already quite strong, will be further strengthened by the inclusion of Nelson Bass, former New Zealand representative, wl comeback. Devonport will meet Richmond on the No. 2 area at 3 p.m., and although Devonport is so far undefeated this season, the indications are that the men from the Shore will find Richmond a harder nut to crack than either Newton or Kingsland. Newton meets Kingsland at the Domain, where a good even battle can be expected, and Marist travels out to
