BRITISH TAXATION.—In the House of Commons on Tuesday the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Philip Snowden, said last year's percentage of indirect taxation was 35.52 per cent, and direct taxation C 4.18 per cent. Under the Budget the respective figures were 34.07 and 65.93. EARL DISCUSSES TREATY.—At a banquet in Xew York, the Earl of Derby discussed the recent Naval Conference. He stated that as far as he knew the London agreement was wholly acceptable to all the people of Britain. He emphasised Britain’s need of adequate naval protection and advocated increased interest in world politics instead of party politics.
