STRENGTHENING THE RACE
“WHITE AUSTRALIA” PLAN SUPPORTED MENTAL HYGIENE STUDY United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 1 p.m. WASHINGTON, Wed. Dr. Noble, Australian delegate at the first meeting of the International Committee for Mental Hygiene, made a plea for an international understanding of Australia’s aspirations in the “White Australia” policy. He said such an understanding was a most important factor to the country’s mental hygiene. He said that by means of racial purity, Australia was seeking to avoid many of the problems of which representatives of other nations spoke, and showed to be on the increase, due to the intermixture of races.
Dr. Emerson, New York Professor of Public Health, said that by such a policy for strengthening the menral and physical purity of the race. Australia might expect to avoid the suicide problem which had quadrupled in the United States during the past 70 years, and divorce, which had tripled in the United States in 50 years.
