POISONED MEAT ON ROAD
CHARGE AGAINST FARMER FAILS From Our Own Correspondent PUK.EKOHE, Wednesday. A charge of throwing poisoned meat on to the side of a Te Kauwhata read on October 29, preferred against a farmer, Henry Skewes, was dismissed by Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., in the Pukekohe Court today. After hearing the story of a gir) aged eight years as to the finding of the parcel, the magistrate held that the evidence of her elder sister, given at the sitting on March 26, was unreliable. The latter girl stated on that occasion that she had observed defendant throw a parcel on to the roadside when passing in a gig. She walked to the road, looked at the parcel, but did not endeavour to ascertain its contents. Mr. Levien expressed the opinion that defendant apparently had no motive for throwing the package on to the road.
