Prize Night
NORTH SHORE SWIMMERS HOLD GALA DANCE FOR PRESENTATIONS STREAMER DECORATIONS The Parish Hall, Devonport, was thronged with dancers last evening on the occasion of the North Shore Amateur Swimming Club's annual prize night. rpHIT hall was decorated with blue, white and gold streamers, the club’s colours, and music -was in the hands of Ye Versatile Pirates. During the evening the prizes won during the year were presented by Mr. K. Aldridge, Mayor of Devonport. Mr. Aldridge also made a presentation on behalf of the citizens of Devonport to Miss Eila Munro, in recognition of her
bravery in rescuing three people from drowning at Muriwai last February. Among the prizes presented was the Eila Munro Cup to Miss Nancy Watson for the 220yds girls’ handicap, to be swum in open water. An exhibition of the Skaters’ Waltz was given by Miss Ballantyne and Mr. Bruce, of the Margaret O’Connor School.
Hostesses for the evening were: Mrs. Lane, frocked in wine taffeta with gold relief, and Mrs. Little, in black georgette and lace.

Whitley was hostess at her home in Coombs Road, Remu* era. last evening at a bright farewell bridge and dance party for her son, Mr. Eric Whitley, who leaves for England this week. Lovely bronze chrysanthemums were? arranged in the rooms, and Mrs. Whitley received her guests wearing a gown of black moire velvet and lace. BRIDE ELECT HONOURED AT HAPPY OTAHUHU PARTY
DANCING AND GAMES The Parish Hall, Otahuhu* was the scene of a delightfully gay ‘-kitchen” party on Tuesday evening, when a number of friends of Miss Marjorie Pearce, whose marriage takes place very soon, gathered to wish her success in her new sphere. The party was organised by Misses I. Tucker, E. Todd, K. Todd, N. Aickin and Nina Aicken, and the hall was prettily decorated with streamers, balloons and chrysanthemums. Dance music was contributed by Airs. A. Todd, Misses Maud Tucker and F. Baverstock. Gaiety was added by the streamer and competition dances, the successful competitors being: Spot waltz, Mr. and Airs. Burnard; musical arms. Miss C. Ryburn; Monte Carlo waltz, Miss S. Ryburn and partner.
The duties of masters of ceremony were carried out by Messrs. K. Aickin and M. Todd.
A table laden with the gifts brought by the guests was carried to the centre of the hall,-where Miss Kathleen Todd in a few happy words, on behalf of the gathering, wished the guest of honour all possible future happiness. Air Aleredith spoke for Aliss Pearce and thanked everyone for the verv enjoyable evening, and also the gifts. A delightful evening terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Aliss AI. Pearce was frocked in rose mist ring velvet, with diamente trimming.
The members of the organising committee were Aliss I. Tucker, who wore a frock of maize taffeta; Aliss E. Todd, ashes of roses pink crepe de chine; Aliss K. Todd, who was wearing wallflower georgette; Aliss X. Aicken, leaf green georgette; and Aliss Nina Aicken, lichen green georgette.
Aotea Tennis Club Holds First Annual Function
Bridge and Dancing ENJOYABLE EVENING The Aotea Tennis Club held its first annual function in the Crystal Palace Hall last evening, bridge and dancing Entertaining a large number of guests. The hall was decorated with gaily coloured streamers and Chinese lanterns. Bridge was also played by some of the guests. Air. FT. VICTORIA LEAGUE ENTERTAINS AT AFTERNOON TEA
WANGANUI EX-PRESIDENT AND DAUGHTER ARE GUESTS Mrs. E. Anderson, an expresident of the Wanganui Victoria League, and Miss Anderson, her daughter, who are visiting Auckland, were entertained at an enjoyable afternoon tea party given by the Victoria League in the rooms in Shortland Street yesterday. Bright yellow African marigolds were arranged in bowls, and made vivid splashes of colour around the room.
Miss Mowbray, president of tlic league, welcomed Mrs. Anderson and her daughter, and referred to the fact that Airs. Anderson, in her capacity as president of the Wanganui Victoria League, had attended the first league conference which was held in Auckland nine years ago. Airs. Anderson briefly replied, thanking Aliss Alowbray and the members of the league for the welcome they extended to her and her daughter. Other guests of the league for the afternoon were Mrs. A. C. Day, of Wellington, and Aliss Ella Harris, of Auckland, a friend of Mrs. Anderson’s. Lady Sinclair-Lockhart, Airs. John Reid, Airs. A. Devore, Airs. 11. AI. Alarler, Airs. S. A. Stride, Aliss Slator, Airs. Napier, and Aliss Garrard were the hostesses for the afternoon.

BRIDE IN ROSE SATIN AND LACE CARRIES BOUQUET OF LILIES COX—CASSIDY The wedding took place at Whenuakura, ATatiere. at the residence of the bride’s brother, of Aliss Jean Cassidy, of Alatiere. to Air. Albert Henry Cox, of Hikurangi. The bride was given away by Air. G. A. Rhynd, and wore a charming gown of rose crepe satin with silk lace trimmings and veil. She carried a bouquet of Easter lilies. The bridesmaid was Aliss Rose Rhynd, who wore a frock of lemon satin, and carried a bouquet of autumn flowers. Peggy Lindsay was flowergirl, dressed in saxe blue rayon. Air. A. Alackie, of Hikurangi, was the best man.
To receive her guests at the reception, Airs. Rhynd wore an attractive rrock of navy blue mai ocain trimmed with beige.
OTAHUHU WEDDING
TOUCHES OF PALE BLUE AND SILVER RELIEVE IVORY GOWN HAGGIE—BROWN Last evening at the Methodist Church, Otahuhu, a pretty wedding: was celebrated by the Rev. A. W. E. Silvester, when Doris, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Brown. Iluia Road, Otahuhu, was married to Edward Lawrence, the fifth son of Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Haggle, of Seddon Terrace, Otahuhu. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a pretty gown of ivory georgette, with skirt of flared flounces embroidered in pale blue and silver. An embroidered veil was prettily arranged with tiny posies of orange-blossom and silver roses, and she carried a shower bouquet of chrysanthemums. Miss Zeta Hewson attended as maid, wearing lavender crepe de chine, with fitting bodice, and full-tiered skirt. She wore a head-dress and carried a shower bouquet. Daphne Whale acted as flower-girl, wearing a quaint frock of eau de nil green crepe de chine, the skirt consisting of tiny petals. A pretty headdress of silver was worn, and she carried a silver basket of bright flowers. Miss E. Moffat presided at the organ. Mr. Walter Piper carried out the duties of best man. The Kingsford Hall had been prettily decorated in shades tt> harmonise with the frocks worn by the bridal party. Mrs. Brown received the guests wearing a frock of navy crepe de chine with beige trimmings. Mrs. G. Haggie wore an ensemble of burnt orange crepe de chine, with hat to match. The bride travelled in a fur-trimmed coat of green velour, worn over a frock of creme and old rose.
IVORY LACE WEDDING FROCK
MAID IN BOUFFANT GOWN OF GREEN TAFFETA CRESSWELL—CLAY A pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Andrew's Church on Monday afternoon, when Ella Mary, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clay, was married to William Free, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Creswell. The Rev. h\ P. de L. Willis performed the ceremony and Mr. Dingle presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. G. A. Clay, wore a dainty bridal frock of white silk lace over white satin. The handkerchief pointed skirt falling to ankle-length from a close-fitting bodice. Her laceedged embroidered tulle veil, which was caught to the head with orange blossoms, fell to form a graceful train and she carried a sheaf of white and pale pink chrysanthemums. The bridesmaid, Miss Rita F. Hill, wore a frock of leaf green taffeta, the petalled ankle-length skirt falling gracefully from a tight-fitting bodice scalloped below the waistline. She wore a wide-brimmed green felt hat and carried a sheaf of pink chrysanthemums. Little Pamela Clay, niece of the bride, was train-bearer, wearing a dainty frock of apple green organdie with rows of petalled frills. Her head-dress was a circlet of rosebuds and she carried a i>osy of pale pink flowers.
The bridegroom was attended by Mr. W. L. Mynott as best man. A reception was held later at the home of the bride’s parents, 48 Empire Road, Epsom, where Mrs. Clay received the guests wearing a frock of black moire velvet and a hat to match. Mrs. Cresswell wore a grey satin ensemble, with a hat to tone.
TAUMARUNUI BRIDE HAS PRETTY BEIGE ENSEMBLE OF GEORGETTE AND LACE
BERESFORD—LANG At the Taumarunui Methodist Church recently the marriage took place of Winifred Phoebe (Jo), only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rs J. M. Lang, of Taumarunui, and Wilfred James, youngest son of Mrs. E. Beresford, of Auckland. The Rev. C. R Taylor performed the ceremony.
The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming ensemble suit, the frock being of champagne georgette, with pintucked bodice and ankle-length flared skirt. The coat was of autumn-tinted lace. She wore a smart soft felt hat to match and carried a bouquet of autumn flowers. The bridesmaid. Miss Neta Laurie, of Feilding, was in a frock of lemon crepe de chine, with a hat to tone, and she carried a bouquet of cream flowers.
Mr. -C. Eady. of Taumarunui, acted as best man.
At the reception held at the Arcadia Tearooms Jlrs. Lane received the guests wearing a smart costume with a hat to match, rnd fox furs. Hlie carried a pale pink posy. The bridegroom’s mother wore a coat of black silk and a hat to tone. Her posy was of autumn flowers.
