HUGE NAVY BILL
U.S.A. SEEKS PARITY WITH GREAT BRITAIN BILLION DOLLAR PROGRAMME Reed. 9.50 a.m. WASHINGTON, Tues. Mr. P. A. Britten, chairman of the House Naval Committee, announced on Tuesday that he would introduce a Bill for naval war-craft, costing a billion dollars, which, he said, was neces-
sary to bring the American Navy to a parity with Britain in ten years. Mr. Britten said he had confidential figures showing that new construction requirements in ten years would call for 73,500 tons of six-inch gun cruisers, 150,000 tons of destroyers, 52,700 tons of submarines, and 69,000 tons of aircraft carriers.

Reed. 10.40 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. It is understood the British Government is in active consultation with the Dominions on the Singapore base. It apparently considers the Naval Conference results are successful enough to warrant reducing the activities at the base, and possibly eventually abandoning It.
