MATCH ABANDONED
RAIN FALLS HEAVILY DURING LEICESTER CRICKET AUSTRALIANS AHEAD Reed. 10.15 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The cricket match Leicestershire v Australia had to be abandoned this morning. Heavy rain fell in the night, and as it was still falling when the time came to resume no play was possible. Leicestershire made 148 in the first innings, and Australia had lost five wickets for 365. Bowling for Leicester: Shipman, 0-59; Snary, 1-89; Geary, 4-85; Astill, 0-99; Armstrong, 0-27. The “Daily Telegraph” says Bradman immediately won every heart by his confidence and the suggestion of his immense physical strength. It may be debatable, says the paper, whether he is another Trumper, but he is a batsman of the highest degree. ESSEX TEAM The Essex team against the Australians will be Bray (captain), Crawley, H. Smith, H. Palmer, Russell, O'Connor, 1 Nichols, Hipkin, Sheffield, Cutmore and 1 Pope.
