HOT SPRINGS ERUPT
1 MILLION TONS OF MUD THROWN OUT BLOW-OUT NEAR GISBORNE Press Association GISBORNE. Today. A sharp report and rumblings suggestive of an earthquake startled Waimata Valley residents yesterday. It was later found that three or four acres round the mud-springs on Mr, Savage’s property were covered to a depth of ten feet with mud as the result of a gas blow-out. JT is estimated that nearly a million tons of mud were thrown up ths eruption overflowing for a quarter of a mile down the hillside. The springs have always interested oil men as the presence of gas is believed to be associated with the existence of oil.
