An unusual position in regard to the employment of apprentices in thj carpentery and joinery* trades was revealed at a meeting of the CanterbuBuilders’ Association. It was stat*- ; that a deadlock had arisen on 1 11 • - apprenticeship committee as a result ot the workers’ representatives refusing to agree to the granting of an> applications for new apprentices :u. present. The union, it was said, had applied to the Arbitration Court for power t<» restrict the number of apprentices on account of the depressed state of the building trade.
