FAN-PACIFIC CONFERENCE

GRANT FOR EXPENSES Seeking support for a request to the Government for a grant for travelling expenses of delegates to the PanPacific Women’s Conference at Honolulu in August a deputation of Auckland members of the New’ Zealand committee waited upon the Hon. G. W. Forbes yesterday. The deputation comprised Miss B. Carn a chan, Miss J. Begg and Miss E. Melville (Dominion secretary). The Minister promised his full consideration. and said the matter would be brought before Cabinet. Miss Melville said the committee represented the National Council of nomeii, the Federation of University Momen, the Plunket Society, the M omen’s Christian Temperance Union, the Young Women’s Christian Association. the Women’s Institutes and the Women Teachers’ Association. Each country was entitled to 25 delegates, and the Dominion sought to send about ten. The expenses of the conference would be borne by the PanPacific Union, and travelling expenses, amounting to about £750 would have to be met.

It was proposed to send a Maori woman delegate, who could describe the harmonious relations e?;isting between the two races in New Z aland, and perhaps shed some light on the Samoan question.
