NO PAY, NO PLAY
DOMAIN BOARD’S ULTIMATUM CONTROVERSY WITH TENNIS CLUB From Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Today. For several years the property owned by the Domain Board and occupied by the Hamilton Tennis Club has been subject to considerable controversy over the question of the lease. Lengthy negotiations have taken place between the two organisations, which have been unable to agree to terms. Last evening the Tennis Club wrote stating that the Domain Board was guilty of a breach of faith in asking for the payment of rent by the club before an alleged period of 14 years of free rent had elapsed. The board decided that as no such agreement had been mentioned previously, the club should pay £4O annually for the next four years with water rates, and should the club not agree, the board will take possession of the courts at Rosstrevor Street. Mr, W. H. Paul, chairman of the board, commenting on the position, said: “The offer is made to help them. They have never helped themselves, and the board has assisted them all along.”
