RADIO APPEAL
GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY UP TO £SOO PRIME MINISTER’S WORD The Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, has agreed to a Government subsidy of £ for £ up to £SOO for funds raised in tomorrow’s radio appeal. The appeal is being launched by the Auckland City Mission to raise funds to assist the unemployed. Yesterday 20,000 circulars had been sent out to listeners. The organising secretary of the mission, Mr. Bart Clark, forwarded a message to the Prime Minister suggesting that the Government should assist with toe appeal, and suggesting that it should be subsidised £ for £ up to £SOO. The Prime Minister has replied: “Your telegram received. I wish you success with vour radio appeal for funds, and desire to inform you that 1 shall be glad to authorise a Government subsidy of £ for £ up to £SOO on funds so raised/' The mission’s “doss-house,” which opened with 48 men, accommodated 81 yesterday
