ISSUE OF REPORT DELAYED MINISTER’S EXPLANATION Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. In reply to criticism of the GovernnJefl 1 t for the delay in the publication 01 the report of the Royal Commission on Economic Pensions, the Hon J G Cobbe, Minister of Defence, states that m the first place the report was held L'.p pending his return from Samoa where he represented the Government during the negotiations with the Mau. Yv lien he read the document on his return it was decided that as the recommendations were of great importance and would involve, if carried out in their entirety, a large increase in expenditure, it should be considered by the Pensions Department and the repatriation branch of the State Advances Department. The report has now been received back from those departments, which have attached their opinions, and last week it was presented to the Governor-General for signature.

Mr. Cobbe is now aivaiting the first opportunity of presenting the report to Cabinet, and as soon as this has been done it will be released for publication. In reply to questions the Minister slated that except for one important recommendation he did not think the report wou’d necessitate the introduction of legislation.
