CIVIC
“PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ” The pride of the Great White Way, Broadway’s supreme entertainer—Harry Richman—is now at the Civic Theatre in a sparkling singing, dancing, talking extravaganza of night clubs and the footlight. A star of George White’s Scandals and master of ceremonies extraordinary, this matchless songster mirrors his own life in a scintillating dramatic revue of beautiful women, magnificent gowns, sumptuous settings, dancing feet and aching hearts, singing playboys and jazz-crazed humans, bright lights, rags and riches, loves and hates, songs by the master song-writer, Irving Berlin. A D’Artagnan of the show world, ad-venture-bent through the glamorous midnight pleasure haunts of a merry meti'opolis, Harry Richman affords one of the most enjoyable evenings ever spent in a theatre.
Auckland audiences have been delighted in watching him strut in the big ensemble scenes; they take on new life watching him make whoopee in the night clubs; and thrill to his singing when he croons “With You,” “Puttin’ on tlie Ritz,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “There’s Danger in Your Ej'es, Cherie.” A great cast appears in support of the star. There are Joan Bennett, stage and screen star, James Gleason, Broadway stage star, Lilyan Tashman, Aileen Pringle and many other wellknown celebrities.
The Civic’s programme includes supporting talkies and new musical selections by Ted Henkel’s Orchestra and by Fred Scholl at the Grand Organ.
