car. McGrath, a labourer, 35 years of age, pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Shanahan explained that a complaint had been made regarding accused, and Constable Wilson, on investigation, had seen him leaving an hotel. “McGrath was very drunk,” the subinspector continued. “He got into the driving seat of the car and started the vehicle.’’ McGrath had the car on the hirepurchase system. Chief-Detective Hammond mentioned that the man had a wife and five children. He was employed a good deal.
Mr. Hunt: If he has five children, what Is he doing with a car?—He can take it back.
McGrath would be fined £lO and would have his licence cancelled, with no further to be issued for a year, Mr. Hunt said, but it was explained that McGrath would require time to make payment..
Mr. Hunt: He can’t pay? Very well. I shall make the fine £5. McGrath can take the car back, and he will be given time to make payment. That is only because of his family.
