MEETINGS OF BRANCHES From Our Otcn Correspondent TE AWAMUTU, Friday Mr. A. Hanna, president of the Te Awamutu branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, presided at a meeting of the branch on Thursday to hear the views of the executive on questions of interest to the farming community. Messrs. Kinnell (Taumarunui) and R. H. Feisst (Cambridge; were present to state the position. Mr. Ivinnell said prices of farm products had receded to such a low level that it was not unprofitable to continue farming. People were giving it up. The petrol tax afforded some measure of relief, but it was noticeable that the farmers’ rates were not being reduced. He advocated a reduction in the customs tariiT. and urged farmers to present a united front in representations to secure fairer treatment. Mr. Feisst said the Auckland provincial executive was firmly convinced that farmers should support only thos* 1 candidates for Parliament who will place the farmers’ interest first. The union is giving the Country Party its moral support. WAIKATO SUB-PROVINCIAL From Our Otcn Correspondent HAMILTON, Friday. The annual meeting of the Waikato sub-provincial branch of the Farmers’ Union was held today, Mr. S. R. Cox presiding. The president's annual report stated that the question of elevating the Waikato district from sub-provincial to provincial status was one which would would require the attention of the incoming executive. Its attainment would mean an increase in the revenue and would widen the union’s usefulness to the farmer. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. J. H. Furness; vicepresident, Mr. H. A. Watkins; treasurer, Mr. W. H. Worster: auditor, Mr. W. Stopford: committee, Messrs. A. Ramsey. J. Mackay, and T. Roach. Mi. C. J. Phair and Mr. Ramsey were appointed representatives on the provincial conference. MATANGI BRANCH From Our Otcn Correspondent HAMILTON, Friday. The annual meeting of the Matangi. branch of the Farmers’ Union was held last evening, Mr. W. Boyd presiding over a good attendance. The president said four successful meetings had been held during the year, and some interesting addresses had been given. The membership stood at 22. A credit balance of £lO 13s lOd was shown in the balance sheet. Officers were elected as follow: President. Mr. W. Boyd: secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. Rar.stead; delegate to provincial conference, Mr. W. LeeMartin. M.P.: delegate on subprovincial executive. Mr. W. Boyd: deputy, Mr. Ben Williams; committee. Messrs. Williams. Pilkington.
