PINNED UNDER TRACTOR

FARMER’S DAUGHTER KILLED EVIDENCE AT INQUEST From Our Own Correspondent TK AWAMUTU, Friday. An inquest into the circumstances l o£ the death o£ Miss Francis Jary, ■ who was killed through the capsizing 1 o£ a motor-tractor, was held yester- ( day at Mr. Jary’s homestead, near \ Ohaupo, before the acting-coroner, \ Mr. S. H. Dunkley, J.P. Frank Jary, farmer, Ngaroto, father 1 of deceased, said that on Wednesday his daughter was driving a tractor which was trailing a set ot harrows, as she had done on previous occasions. Witness offered to take control of the tractor, but she replied: “I don’t mind carrying on. You go on with the work you were doing.” Witness went to do some logging-up in the same paddock, 20 yards away. A quarter of an hour later he heard the tractor stop, and looking across he saw the wheels of. the implement in the air. lie ran over and saw his daughter lying dead, pinned under the tractor. He considered the cause of the accident was the harrows getting caught on a piece of timber, causing the tractor to rear and fall backward. Dr. Keith N. Hiskens said deceased's right upper ribs were crushed, the lower jaw fractured, the neck broken, and there were wounds on the right side of the neck. Death must have been instantaneous. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
