GIRLS AND DRINK
ALARM EXPRESSED BY SOCIAL WORKERS NIGHT DRIVES WITH MEN Alarm was expressed at the amount of drinking among young women and girls, when accompanied by men on motor-car night drives, at a meeting of the Auckland Social Workers’ Association. held at Sister Esther’s headquarters, Ponsonby, on Wednesday evening Mr. Alf. Thompson presided, and representatives from the chief social organisations were present. The following resolutions were unanimously carried: “That the City Council having stated its opinion, 'that the supervision of its parks and beaches is the work of the Police Department, this conference urges tho Minister of Justice to take steps to ensure that adequate police patrolling of these , areas is given.” “That this conference expresses its alarm at the extraordinary amount of drinking among young women and girls, when accompanied by men on motor-car night drives. The conference feels that lack of proper parental control is in many instances responsible for this growing evil. We feel that the public does not realise the enormous dangers attendant upon this increasing menace in the undermining of good citizenship.
