BENVENUE LEAVES PANAMA CANAL.—The G. H. Scales chartered steamer Renvenue, which left Dunedin on March 28 for Dunkirk, London and Hull, iv reported to have cleared the Panama Canal on April 27. SOMERSET LEAVES NEW YORK.— The New Zealand Shipping Company has received cabled advice that the Somerset left New York on April 29. She left Auckland on March 28 for New York. Halifax and • London. PORT BRISBANE LEAVES LAS PALMAS.—The C. and D. Line steamer Port Brisbane, which left Wellington on -March 22 for Montevideo and London, is reported to have left Las Palmas on Monday. She is expected to reach London today. SCHOONER HUIA AT MELBOURNE. —The Nobel auxiliary schooner Huia reached Melbourne from Auckland veslerday. After discharge of her timber cargo the vessel is to load explosives for New Zealand at Tasmania, Sydney and j Melbourne* in that order.

The Middlesex was dispatched from Napier on April 9 and the Northumberland from Wellington on April S. KIA ORA DELAYED.—The Shaw. Savill Company advises that the KLia Ora left Bluff yesterday for Timaru and Wellington to complete loading. JACK'S POINT LIGHT.—The Marine 1 Department advisee that the light at j Jack's Point will be converted to an auto- : malic light on May 29. From May h *o May 2S, inclusive, a temporary fixed light, visible for seven miles, will be shown from the tower at a position four feet , lower than the existing light. MAUI POMARE SAILS TUESDAY.— ] Sped ding. Rtd., advises that the Govern-] ment motor-ship Maui Pomare, now at ; King's Wharf, is to sail at 3 p.m. on 1 Tuesday for Niue Island and Apir (Samoa), with passengers, mails and cargo. THE LADY LEWlS.—After having remained in port for repairs since completion of discharge of her cargo of phosphates from Nauru Island yesterday afternoon, the steamer Lady Levis viescheduled to clear port at noon today for Westport for bunkers. From the coal port she proceeds to Maka tea Island to load phosphates for Honolulu. AORANGI DUE MONDAY.-The Union Company's Royal Mail motor-liner Aorangi is due in port on Monday morning from Sydney, en route to Vancouver. After pratique has been granted the vessel is no berth at Prince’s Wharf to land her New Zealand passengers, mails and cargo. She is to be dispatched at 11 a.m. on Tuesday for Suva. Honolulu, Victoria and Vancouver, where she is due on May 23.
MAH IA LOADING.—An arrival In port at 10. SO o’clock last evening was the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Mahia from Gisborne. The vessel is now at Queen’s Wharf completing her cargo for Montevideo and London 1 under the agency of A. S. Paterson and J ’Company. Utd. The Mahia is to be di.- - • patched finally on her Homeward voyage i at C.&O a .xn. on Thursday next. THE TOFU A.—The Union Company j has received advice that the Island steamer Tofua reached Apia from Tonga ; at six o'clock on Thursday morning and was to sail for Suva and Auckland at fiv-s j o'clock last evening. The vessel is , scheduled to clear Suva next Thursday and to reach Auckland the following Monday. CANADIAN TRANSPORTER FOR AMERICA.—The local office of the Canadian National Steamships advises that their steamer Canadian Transporter, is due here on Monday morning from Southern ports to complete loading general cargo for New York, Boston and Halifax. They hope to dispatch her th* same evening. She will berth at King's Wharf. BRUNSWICK EXPECTED TONIGHT. —The Atlantic Union Oil Company’s chartered tanker Brunswick is due at 9.30 o’clock tonight with a full cargo of bulk fuel oil for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. Thvessel will berth tomorrow morning at Western Wharf to discharge the local consignment into the company’s tanks at i Freeman s Bay. CANADIAN CONQUEROR DUE MONDAY.—No further radio advice has been received from the Canadian National Steamships steamer Canadian Conqueror, inward bound from Montreal, She is expected to arrive here on Monday, and will unload the local part of hem general cargo at Prince’s Wharf. Her other discharging ports will be Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin. VESSEL LIFTED 16 FEET. The utility of the new entrance lock over the old lock at Tilbury Docks was well illustrated on March 7 when The R.M.S. Chitral, 15,248 tons, was docked at low water, an achievement which could not have been accomplished with the old entrance. The operation involved admitting 1,760.000 cubic feet, or 50,000 tons, of water through the sluice from the river in order to lift the vessel 16 feet to the dock water level. POLISH GOVERNMENT PURCHASE. —The Polish Government has purchased the three steamers Lituania, Estonia and Polonia, operated by the Baltic America Bine in its service between New York and Danzig, Gdynia, Helsingfors and other Baltic ports. Jt is announced that the Polish Government intends to main - tain a regular service with these vessels and others to be acquired later between Gdynia, Halifax and New York. The Lituania, 6,522 tons gross, was built in 1915; the Ponolia. 7,500 tons gross, was built in 1910: the Estonia, 6.345 tons gross, was built in 1912. All three are rated at 15 knots speed. They have a large cargo capacity in addition to their passenger accommodation. Gdynia is the latest Polish port in the Baltic Sea. TILBURY PASSENGER LANDING STAGE.—The new passenger landing stage in the river at Tilbury will be opened on Friday, May 16. The ceremony will be performed by the Prime Minister. The new facilities for the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers at Tilbury have been carried out by the Port of London Authority in conjunction with the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Company. A floating stage and a baggage hall on shore have been constructed by the Port of London Authority, and the railway company has reconstructed and enlarged Its railway station adjoining. The Tilbury passenger landing stage renders it possible to discontinue the practice of embarking and disembarking passenger* by tender between the shore and vessels lying in the river, or, alternatively, of passengers waiting on board ship until the vessel reaches her berth in dock.
