SHOT IN A THEATRE
DRAMA OF QUARREL BETWEEN LOVERS STAMPEDE IN STALLS There was great excitement at the Casino de la Jetee Promendale at Nice when, because of a lovers’ quarrel, Mile. Georgette Salnas, a French girl, tried to commit suicide in the third row of the stalls during a love scene in “Res Saltimbanques" (“The Mountebanks”). Mile. Salnas, who told the police she was tired of life because her fiance had quarrelled with her and had failed to keep an appointment, suddenly rose from her seat, drew a revolver and shot herself in the chest. The bullet below the heart and passed out at the back. During the stampede which followed several women fainted and were crushed, says a Nice message. Mile. Salnas was taken to hospital in a dangerous condition, but recovered. a
