ACT TO BE RECAST

Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Today. Work at its task of drafting proposals for the new Shops and Offices Act, which is to be entirely recast this year, has been begun by the special committee set up by the Government. Mr. A. J. Murdoch, M.P., United member for Marsden, and Senior Government Whip, was elected chairman of the committee, which has laid down a mode of procedure in its work. The committee will sit in Wellington on May 6, 7 and 8, and will leave for Dunedin thereafter, sitting in that city on May 12, 3 3 and 14. The members will leave for Christchurch on May 15, arriving on the 16th, but the length of the sittings there will depend upon whether it is determined to visit some of the smaller* towns. On return to Wellington, an itinerary for the North Island will be laid down. The committee has the fullest powers to recast the existing Act, having regard to its judgment of national needs, _ _
