SPORT IN THE COUNTRY BIG BAGS SECURED From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Friday. In the Whaugarei district a good deal of shooting took place yesterday, when everything was favourable for the opening of the season, and a number of excellent bags are reported. The largest bag appears to be 75 ducks shot by a party comprising Messrs. L. Webb, C. Chapman, A. Pilbrow and Bebe Finlayson at the Ruakaka Lake. Although a scarcity is reported from the district generally, Messrs. Cullen and Finlayson secured the maximum bag of pheasants at Kiripaka. A bag of 11 pheasants was secured between Tauraroa and Waikiekie by Messrs. W. D. J. Conaghan and H. It. Jenkins. GAME PLENTIFUL BAY OF PLENTY DISTRICT Special to TUB SUB TE PUKE, Friday. Sportsmen in the Bay of Plenty areas in the Rotorua Acclimatisation Society’s district had good sport on the opening day. Game is exceptionally plentiful, and many limit bags are reported. The Matata, district produced good sport, while the Tarawera, Awakeri and Thornton districts yielded better results than previously. GOOD BAGS REPORTED Special to THE SUN OTOROHANGA, Friday. Duck is plentiful on the Waipa River and the adjacent streams. Bags of 15 and 10 birds are reported. Other parties report a successful day. FEWER DUCKS AT MORRINSVILLE From Our Own Correspondent MORRINSVILLE, Friday. A bag of 40 ducks was secured by a party of four sportsmen, Messrs. R. Kelly, M. and J. Leeson and x\. Thomas, when shooting at Leeson’s Lake, Hangawera Road, Morrinsville, on Thursdaj'. Last year a party of six guns got 60 ducks at this spot on the opening day of the season. DUCKS AT NGARUAWAHIA Fr~om Our Own Correspondent HAMILTON, Friday. Good shooting is reported in the Ngaruawahia district for the opening of the season. Fair bags of duck were secured up the Waipa River aud tributaries. Pheasants are scarce m the district.
