Richmond and Marist

SATURDAY’S LEAGUE FARE

Keen Battle Expected

LAST season'.-, champion of champions, Marist Brothers Old Boys, will appear on Xo. 1 ground in the big match at Carlaw Park tomorrow afternoon against the Richmond Rovers, when the second matches for the season in the Auck> land Rugby League’s senior competition are played. A keen fight is expected, for Richmond went down by only one point to Ponsonby last Saturday and Marist had a three-point decision over Kingsland-Athletie.

■Richmond is a well-trained side and w ill set a pac which the greens will have some difficulty in curbing. The 3larist back line was not in proper working order last Saturday, and an improvement can be expected tomorrow, when it ought to be really dangerous. Brisbane has shown that he is in form already and Brady put in some real good work last Saturday. A little more co-ordination should make the line much more effective.. The forward division also will be a formidable one, but the fast Richmond pack should be able to hold itCITY AND NEWTON Devonport will engage KingslandAthletics on the main arena as a cur-tain-raiser to the big game. After its fine showing last week against Marist the Kingsland team will be abLe to put up a good fight against the Shore men without any inferiority complex. City and Newton will provide the fare on N'o. 2 area at the Park, and the former side is expected to have the better of the encounter. Xewlon, however, did well last week and may be able to repeat the performance of Ellerslie. Ellerslie and Ponsonby will meet on a neutral ground at the Domain and a battle royal should result. The racecourse suburb held a powerful City side last week, and with Dufty, Somers and “Pip” "Webb still in the firing lino should be about equal to the best that Ponsonby can produce.
