LIFE AND LETTERS OF TSCHAIKOWSKY INTERESTING ADDRESS BY MRS. BLOY The Life and Letters of Peter Tschaikowsky” was the subject of a most interesting: address given by Mrs. Herbert Bloy at the dubrooms on Tuesday evening. "Peter Tschaikowsky ranked as one of the greatest masters of Ae Russian school of music, and the lecturer emphasised his triumph over adverse conditions. his parents, being quite unmusical, proved to be most unsympathetic in' their attitude toward his art 11 is earlier teachers failed to recognise his genius, and it was only when he came under the influence of that mighty master, Rubinstein, that he developed his art. until he finally received well-earned recognition. Mrs. Bloy gave a careful delineation of his character. Like most men of talent the composer was most unworldly, modest and unassuming, extremely self-critical, and, by setting a high standard for himself, achieved a permanent expression of mind and intelligence. The lecturer enumerated his most important works, all of which are pervaded by a haunting melancholy. The following excerpts from 3ais compositions were given:—Violin solos. Canzonetta, Miss Leela Bloy. (at Melody, (b) Andante Can labile. Airs. H. R. Kesketh. Songs: <&) "A Legend,” <b> "A Summer Love Tale.” io "Pleading,” <d> "A Broken Tryst.” Miss Craig. Pianoforte solo, Mrs. Herbert Bloy.
