WOMAN’S SUICIDE A verdict of suicide while in a state of mental distress was returned by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the inquest yesterday concerning the death of Mrs. Emily Elspeth Smith, who was found hanged by a waistbelt attached to a bedpost at her residence. Deceased, who was 52 years of age, lived at 4 Ariki Street, Grey Lynn. The dead woman’s husband gave evidence that hie wife had been an invalid for seven years, though not entirely bedridden, and was despondent through the number of operations she had undergone and the hopelessness of recovery.
