MAKURA FOR AUCKLAND. The intercolonial steamer Makura is to sail from Sydney tomorrow afternoon for Auckland. The vessel is due here on Tuesday morning. THE RUAHINE.- I The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rualiine was to sail at noon today for Wellington and Nelson to complete unloading her general cargo from London. RUAPEHU’S SAILING DATE.—Late advice states that the departure of the New Zealand Shipping Company's Ruapehu from Wellington for Southampton and London, via the Panama Canal, has been postponed until daybreak on Sunday. ULIMAROA FOR SYDNEY.—The Hud-dart-Parker steamer Ulimaroa is schedtiled to sail from Wellington at noon tomorrow for Sydney, taking passengers, mails and cargo. She is due at Sydney on Tuesday morning. HUNTINGDON SAILS AT 3 P.M.—The Federal steamer Huntingdon is to be dispatched at 3 o'clock this afternoon for Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers to finish discharging her general cargo from West Coast United Kingdom ports. THE AORANGI.—The motor-liner Aorangi is to leave Sydney this afternoon for Vancouver, via Auckland, Suva. Honolulu and Victoria. The vessel is due here on Monday morning and is announced to resume her voyage at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

NIAGARA CLEARS VANCOUVER. Cabled advice received by the Union Company states that its liner Niagara cleared Vancouver at noon ye-ter day for Sydney, via Victoria, Honolulu. Suva and Auckland. The vessel is due here on May 19 and at Sydney five days later. THE CITY OF OSAKA. —The A. and A. Line’s chartered steamer City of Osaka Is reported to have cleared Panama last Monday in continuation of her voyage from New York to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is scheduled to reach Auckland on May 21. KAIRANGA DISCHARGING. The Union Company's Kairanga left Bluff on Monday night for Nelson to continue discharge of her Pacific Coast cargo, and is due there today. She will later proceed t** Wanganui and New Plymouth to complete discharge. THE RANGITANE.—The New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-liner Rangitane is scheduled to leave South- 1 ampton on May 9. In addition to passengers and mail for New Zealand the vessel is to bring cargo from London for discharge at Auckland and Wellington. She is due at Auckland on June 11. PORT HOBART SAILS 3 P.M.— Heather Roberton, Ltd., advises that the Commonwealth and Dominion Line motqr-ship Fort Hobart, now at Queen's Wharf, is to be dispatched at 2 o’clock this afternoon for New York, Boston, Halifax and London, via the Panama Canak KARAMEA FROM LI V ERPOOL.-The Shaw*, Savill and Albion Line motor-ship Karamea is scheduled to clear Liverpool on May 10 with a general merchandise cargo from West Coast ports of Great Britain for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. She is due at Auckland on June 32. GOLDEN CROSS SAILS TOMORROW. —Advice received from Henderson and Macfarlane, Ltd., states that the O. and O. steamer Golden Cross, at present at Central Wharf discharging the local part of her # general cargo from the Pacific Slope, is to sail at noon tomorrow for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru and Dunedin to finish unloading. WAIPAHI FROM ISLANDS.—The Union Company's Island fruit steamer Waipalii arrived this morning at 10 o'clock and berthed at Prince's Wharf. She has 11,000 cases of Samoan bananas for discharge here. Afterward the vessel is to load general merchandise, and the agents hope to dispatch her tomorrow for Aitutaike, Rarotonga and Jlangaia. MAHIA COMING.—At present at Gisborne loading for Montevideo and London. the Shaw, .Savill steamer Mahia is expected to leave there tonight for Auckland to complete. She should arrive here on Saturday morning and will complete her cargo under the agency of A. S. Paterson and Co., Ltd. The Vessel is scheduled to clear this port finallv on the morning of May ft. BRITISH STAR LEAVES SAN PEDRO. bews has been received by the I nion Company that its chartered tanker British Star left San Pedro on April 23 with a cargo of fuel oil for Wellington. She is due at Wellington on May 19. The British Star has a gross tonnage of 6,888, and was built in 1918 by Swan, Hunter, and Wigham Richardson, Ltd., Newcastle, for British Tankers, Ltd. RECORD NITRATE CARGO.—The twin screw motor-ship Weirbank has been chartered to load 7,500 tons of Chilean nitrate of soda for Auckland, Sydnev, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle. She is scheduled to leave Chile at the end of May. and given an average passage should arrive in Auckland about the e bd of June. This is the largest cargo of nitrates ever loaded on one vessel for these ports. WAIMARINO LEAVES HOME.—The Union Company advises that the Waimarmo, the last of their five new cargo steamers, left England on April 21 for Dunedin, Lyttelton and Auckland, via Durban, and is due at Dunedin earlv in July. The Waimarino has a gross tonnage of 8,030, ancl was launched earlv in March by the Ardrossan Dockyard, Ltd., Ardrossan. She is a single screw steamer of 220 ft in length, by 46.7 ft in moulded breadth. by 25.5 ft in depth moulded to upper deck, and is of the two-deck type, with poop, bridge, and forecastle. LADY LEWIS SAILS TOMORROW, — After having unloaded a full cargo of phosphates from Nauru Island at King s Wharf, the steamer Lady Lewis is to leave tomorrow afternoon for 5\ estport. where she will bunker. From The coal port the vessel Is to proceed to Makatea Island, where she will loud a cargo of phosphates for Honolulu. MATAROA AT WELLINGTON .—W it h passengers and mails for New Zealand and general cargo from London for discharge at Wellington and Auckland, the Shaw. Savill liner Mataroa arrived at the. capital at 7 o’clock last evening. To complete unloading the vessel is expected to arrive at this port on May 7 and two days later will start loading for London. Her Auckland agent will be L. D. Nathan, Ltd. WHITE STAR COMMODORE. —It is announced by the White Star Line that the commander of the Majestic, is to be commodore of the White Star fleet. The rank of commodore entitles the i oldpr to flv a special flag, the White Star Line house flag, edged with white, at the mainmast of liis ship, and to wear distinctive markings of rank. The last commodore in the White Star Line fleet was Sir Bertram Hayes, who, until his retirement under the company’s age limit in 1924, was in command of the Majestic. Commodore Marshall has had a distinguished career with the White Star Line. Born in April in 1873, he served in the Conway, and after his apprenticeship joined the White Star Line and became a junior officer in the Company’s cargo service in January. 1899. He reached the rank of chief officer in March, 1908, and was promoted to master in August, 1911. He lias since commanded all the more important ships in the company’s service, including the Teutonic, Megantic. Cedric and Olympic. During the war he received the D.S.O. in recognition of his services with the Auxiliary Patrol and a bar to his D.S.O. in December. 1919. He was created C.B. in June. 1925. and was appointed aide-de-camp to the King In October, 1926, acting in that capacity during the opening by the King of the new Gladstone Dock, Liverpool, in July, 3 927. Commodore Marshall has been in command of the Majestic since September, 1928.
