TAKAPUNA BOROUGH

MEETING OF COUNCIL A full meeting of members of the T.ikapnua Borough Council was presided over last evening by the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Williamson. The Takapuna. Croquet Club inquired upon what terms and conditions it could lease the recently donated area known as Potter’s Park. In moving that the Parks Committee deal with the application. the Mayor stated that the deed of gift precluded the leasing of the area, but it could be made over on a year-to-year basis. Reporting upon an official interview with an officer of the Public Works Department, the Mayor said the department could not arrange for unemployment relief works within easy reach of the borough, as required by the council. There would, however, be ample relief works in progress in the province. A ratepayer drew attention to what, he described as a “quite unnecessary nuisance” caused by the continued use of the siren upon the borough fireengine when turning out in early morning hours. Several members agreed with the justice of the complaint and the chairman of the fire brigade committee was authorised to deal with the question. In order to. enable members of the Milford Surf Club and the Takapuna Football Club to engage in practice throughout the winter months, it was resolved to Install a 400 candlepower light on Milford Beach.
