MR. W. J. POLSON UPHOLDS PROPOSAL TELEGRAPHIC BETS FAVOURED Press Association GORE, Today. Mr. W. J. Poison, president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, replied last evening to the Sports Protection League’s criticism of his suggested totalisator tax increase. He said that the racing industry would not have to pay a penny more under his scheme as the increased rate would be passed on to the public. The racing industry would collect its share just as at present, an/i the public would pay its share. The man who could afford to gamble could afford to pay the increase. The speaker said he favoured the use of the telegraph system for mdkmg totalisator investments in oppoaiiiqn to the bookmakers.
