CATALOGUING BARKS

Xoise is noise and barking dogs might may sound alike to householders trying to sleep, but Hollywood discriminates between them. Studio sound experts have learned to their surprise that there are tenor dogs, baritone dogs, bassos and sopranos. There are also many different dog languages, dialects and accents.

That interesting information comes from Henry East, trainer of the 79 dogs who appear with Moran and Mack in "The Two Black Crows in the A.E.F_” their second all-talking comedy for Paramount. The trainer explains that dogs convey their several emotions by their barking. ’When thev are just barking for the pure love of making a noise they sound much different than when they are angry or excited. East, who has a well-stocked kennel of movie-trained dogs, has catalogued the barks of each dog in his possession.
