MILLS’S GRACEFUL ACT
From Our Own Correspondent TAUMARUNUI, Today. It has transpired that a graceful action was performed bv Mr. J. E. Mills, a member of the Parnell cricket team which visited Taumarunui recently. In the course of the match with tho local association, Mills had the misfortune to damage the famous bat with which he batted when he knocked up the record first-wicket partners!. |> with C. Dempster against the Englisn eleven at Wellington. Sincere regret was expressed at the occurrence, as it is a well-known fact that a batsman becomes as devoted to his “willow” as a shootist to his double bore, or an angler to his rod. Before the departure of the Parnell team for Auckland, Mills presented the bat to Mr. F. M. Carroll, president of the King Country Cricket Association. It is covered with signatures, and as a memento of memorable cricket will be always cherished.
